[THE INVESTOR] The record for the largest number of travelers leaving Korea through the country’s main gateway airport was broken twice on the first two days of the extended Chuseok holiday, according to Incheon Airport on Oct. 2.
On Sept. 30, a total of 114,746 people left Korea through Incheon Airport, setting a new daily record. That record was broken again on Oct. 1 with 116,112 passengers leaving the country.
The figures exceed Incheon Airport’s predictions that the largest number of passengers leaving Korea would be 104,755 people on Saturday.
Incheon Airport predicted that about 1.95 million travelers will pass through the airport between Sept. 29 and Oct. 9, with many people opting to spend the 10-day Chuseok holiday overseas.
Overall, the number of passengers is expected to rise over 10 percent compared to last year’s Chuseok holiday. The airport has extended operating hours for its facilities and added employee shifts and check-in counters to prevent delays during the break.
