[THE INVESTOR] Prosecutors raided McDonald’s Korea headquarters and three other sites of its raw ingredients supplier and distributors on Oct. 18.
The raid took place about 100 days after a complaint was filed against the company for alleged violation of local food safety rules.
The fast-food giant is under investigation for allegedly selling undercooked hamburgers to its customers which left a four-year-old girl critically ill.
The mother of the affected girl who was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, popularly known as hamburger disease, a few days after eating at an outlet filed a complaint on July 5 with the prosecution. As of now, five victims have sued McDonald’s for similar instances.
The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, however, downplayed the raid.
“McDonald has not been charged as an offender. The raid was merely conducted for investigations concerning the suspected violation of livestock products sanitary control act by one of the raw ingredients supplier,” a spokesperson said.
McDonald’s Korea was unavailable for comment and has yet to release a statement.
