[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics said on Dec. 19 it will start global sales of the mid-range Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus smartphones in January.

The Korean tech giant said the Galaxy A8 smartphone is the first Galaxy device to adopt a dual-lens camera on the front.

The products will come with 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras for selfies, along with a 16-megapixel camera on the back.

Samsung also said the new smartphones will come with the same Infinity Display as its premium models, eliminating side bezels for a simpler design. The Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy A8 Plus come with displays sized at 5.6 inches and 6 inches, respectively.

The company said the 18.5:9 display ratio will allow users to fully enjoy both 16:9 and 21:9 video content.

The Galaxy A8 smartphone retains many of top features of Samsung‘s high-end devices, including the popular mobile payment system Samsung Pay, and Always On Display which posts key information on screen even when smartphones are not in use.

The devices are IP68 certified for resistance to both water and dust. It also connects to Samsung’s virtual-reality headset for the first time as a Galaxy A model.

The Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus will come in four colors -- black, grey, gold and blue. The battery capacity stands at 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh, respectively.

Samsung said the detailed release date will differ among countries.
