[THE INVESTOR] POSCO Daewoo, a major Korean trading company, said on March 16 that it has clinched a US$60 million order to provide a ship design and materials package to Peru’s state-run shipyard Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA) for the building a multi-purpose vessel.
The company said it will receive a ship design and materials from Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering, a small Korean shipbuilder, before supplying them to SIMA.
The trading company said technical officials of Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering will also train Peruvians in the building of the SIMA ship.
The ship, once launched, will be used for rescuing people and transporting emergency supplies in disaster situations, according to POSCO Daewoo.
