[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics announced its preliminary earnings for the second quarter this year on July 6. The tech giant earned 771 billion won (US$691.3 million) in operating profit, up 18.5 percent from the same quarter last year. Its revenue came in at 15 trillion won, up 3.2 percent year-on-year.
In the first half, the company recorded 30.1 trillion in sales and 1.9 trillion won in operating income, the highest ever in the company’s history.
Compared to the first quarter, however, the operating income dropped 30.4 percent.
The breakdown of the business performance has not been unveiled, but the home appliance unit is said to have made a major contribution to the profit improvement.
The mobile division of the firm, however, is said to have record an operating loss for a 13th consecutive month in the April-June period.
