[THE INVESTOR] Kia Motors on July 19 launched the Niro EV all-electric model in the domestic market in a move to diversify its lineup.

The Niro EV mated with a 64 kilowatt-hour battery can travel up to 385 kilometers -- more than the distance between Washington and New York -- on a single charge. The model with a 39.2 kWh battery has a range of 246 km, the company said in a statement.

The model sells for 47.8 million won (US$42,000) to 49.8 million won. It is equipped with basic safety features, such as front collision avoidance, lane following assist and driver awareness, it said.

Kia plans to launch the Niro EV in Europe later this year.

Globally, the company sold more than 200,000 units of the Niro hybrid model, which was launched in April 2016.
