[THE INVESTOR] Samsung C&T said on July 25 its second-quarter net profit more than tripled on improved profitability in the trading and construction businesses.

Net profit for the three months ending June 30 jumped to 343.20 billion won (US$305 million) from 109.68 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Operating profit surged 51 percent to 378.13 billion won in the second quarter from 250.59 billion won a year ago. Sales were up 8.3 percent to 7.928 trillion won from 7.319 trillion won during the same period, it said.

In the January-June period, net profit more than doubled to 706.31 billion won from 297.32 billion won a year earlier.

Operating profit climbed 51 percent on-year to 587.3 billion won on sales of 15.404 trillion won, a 9.9 percent gain over the year.
