[THE INVESTOR] Kia Motors said on Aug. 1 its car sales rose 5.1 percent last month from a year earlier on recovering demand in emerging markets.
Kia sold 230,878 vehicles in July, up from 219,699 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.
The monthly sales were helped by recovering overseas demand for “recreation-oriented” models such as the Sorento SUV, the Sportage SUV and the Carnival minivan, it said.
Domestic sales rose 7.8 percent on-year to 47,000 units in July from 43,611. Overseas sales climbed 4.4 percent to 183,878 from 176,088 over the same period, the statement said.
In the January-July period, Kia’s sales grew 4.5 percent to 1.62 million autos from 1.55 million units in the same period a year ago, it said.
