[THE INVESTOR] SsangYong Motor said on Oct. 1 its sales plunged 20 percent last month from a year earlier due to weaker demand in global markets.

The carmaker sold 10,511 vehicles in September, down from 13,168 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

“Shorter working days due to the Chuseok holiday, which fell in the later half of September, hurt sales last month,” the statement said, referring to Korea’s fall harvest festival.

Domestic sales dropped 19 percent to 7,689 units in September from 9,465 a year earlier. Exports were down a sharp 16 percent to 3,110 units from 3,703 during the same period, it said.

From January through September, the maker of the flagship G4 Rexton and Rexton Sports sport utility vehicles sold a combined 101,436 vehicles, down 4.9 percent from 106,651 a year earlier, the company said.
