Domestic sales plunged 17 percent to 7,434 units last month from 8,991 a year ago. Exports declined 12 percent to 27,382 from 31,273 during the same period, it said.
Though GM Korea began to sell the US-made Equinox sport utility vehicle in June, the 1.6-liter diesel-powered car didn’t help buoy sales. Fewer working days due to September‘s Chuseok holiday affected monthly sales.
In its broad self-rescue efforts, GM’s Korean unit plans to introduce 15 vehicles into the local market over the next five years.
In June, the company launched the upgraded Chevy Spark minicar and picked the Traverse SUV as the next model to be added to its lineup.
From January to September, sales fell 15 percent to 341,349 vehicles from 401,980 a year earlier, the company said.
