“Local demand for imported trucks, buses and vans declined recently as the Korean economy is slowing down amid rising rates and debts. As a result, demand from the construction industry has weakened,” a KAIDA spokeswoman said over the phone.
Imported commercial vehicles are widely viewed as being more upmarket than domestically produced rivals.
In the January-September period, the number of imported commercial cars sold in Korea rose 2.4 percent to 3,369 units from 3,291 in the same period a year ago, it said.
The five major imported commercial car brands are MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Trucks, Scania and Iveco. They sell trucks, buses and vans.
