Most domestic carmakers see sales growth in Oct.

[THE INVESTOR] Most domestic carmakers showed positive sales performance last month, according to their latest data on Nov. 1.

Hyundai Motor saw its October sales rise 0.9 percent from a year. It sold 408,160 vehicles last month, up from 404,321 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement. 


Domestic sales rose 25 percent to 66,288 units last month from 53,012 a year ago. Overseas sales fell 2.7 percent to 341,872 from 351,309 during the same period.

In the January-October period, sales climbed 2.6 percent to 3.77 million autos from 3.68 million units a year earlier.

Its smaller affiliate Kia Motors’ sales rose 4.2 percent from a year earlier. It sold 250,294 vehicles in October, up from 240,125 units a year ago.

Domestic sales jumped 23 percent on-year to 46,100 units last month from the previous month’s 37,521 autos. Overseas sales gained 0.8 percent to 204,194 from 202,604 over the same period, it said.

In the first nine months of the year, sales were up 2.7 percent to 2.32 million units from 2.26 million in same period of 2017, it said.

GM Korea’s sales rose 17 percent from a year earlier. It sold 40,477 vehicles last month, up from 34,535 units a year earlier.

Domestic sales climbed 7.8 percent to 8,273 units last month from 7,672 a year ago. Exports were up a sharp 20 percent to 32,204 from 26,863 during the same period, it said.

From January to October, sales fell 13 percent to 413,199 vehicles from 476,601 a year earlier.

SsangYong Motor saw its sales surge 24.3 percent. It sold 13,352 vehicles in October, up from 10,744 units a year earlier.

Domestic sales soared 36 percent to 10,082 units in October from 7,414 a year earlier. Exports were up 0.4 percent to 3,342 units from 3,330 during the same period, it said.

From January through October, it sold a combined 114,788 vehicles, down 2.2 percent from 117,395 a year earlier.

However, Renault Samsung Motors’ sales fell 5.4 percent from a year earlier. It sold 18,630 vehicles last month, down from 19,694 units the previous year.

Domestic sales rose 24 percent to 8,814 units last month from 7,110 units a year ago. But exports declined 22 percent to 9,816 autos from 12,584 during the same period last year.

From January to October, sales were down 15 percent on-year to 190,525 autos from 224,534, it said.
