[THE INVESTOR] Korea’s ICT Minister Yoo Young-min is set to meet with heads of the country’s main mobile carriers on Nov. 26 to discuss countermeasures following a massive fire at a KT building.
On Nov. 23, the fire broke out in the basement of the telecom company building in western Seoul that led to major internet and phone disruptions around the area.
The blaze paralyzed the fixed-line, mobile and internet networks for individuals and businesses using KT in Seoul‘s western districts of Mapo, Seodaemun and Eunpyeong, as well as some parts of Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul
“An emergency meeting between the CEOs of three mobile carriers has been convened for this afternoon,” Yoo said during a parliamentary meeting. The attendees will include the heads of SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.
The policymaker said the accident showed that not only companies, but that the government needs to prepare for unexpected problems.
