Mirae Asset’s Park Hyeon-joo donates dividends for 8th straight year

[THE INVESTOR] Mirae Asset Financial Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has once again donated his annual dividends to charity, the company said on April 2.

Shareholders agreed on dividends of 1.6 billion won (US$1.5 million) for Park for the fiscal year 2017. The chairman will be donating the entire amount to a charity foundation named after him.

Since 2010, Park has been giving away his dividends. So far, he has donated an aggregated 21.6 billion won to the foundation this way, according to the company. The proceeds are used as scholarships for underprivileged students and other outreach programs.

Park, whose net worth reached US$1.8 billion as of April 2, founded Mirae Asset Investment Advisory and a venture capital affiliate in 1997. Mirae Asset Financial Group currently operates in 12 countries.
