[THE INVESTOR] LG Display, the display-making unit of LG Group, topped the global Utra HD panels in the fourth quater of last year, retaining the top spot for the fifth consecutive quarter, industry data showed on Feb. 19.
The company shippwed 6.78 million units of the high-end liquid crystal display panels in the October-December period, making up 31.1 percent of the market.
Samsung Display, an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, came in second with shipments of 4.69 million units or 23.3 percent share.
IHS said demand for UHD TVs is likely to further grow in the coming years as manufacturers are rolling out more affordable models, making the products accessible to a larger scope of customers.
Tiwan’s AU Optronics and Innolux made up 12.7 percent and 12.3 percent of the market, respectively.
