[THE INVESTOR] LG Group said on April 6 that it will launch the LG Japan Lab in Tokyo in July, aiming to integrate all the research and development centers of its key affiliates for synergies.
There are five LG R&D centers that are separately operated by LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem and LG Hausys. The new unified center will be located at the current LG Electronics center in Sinagawa, Tokyo.
Along with the integration, the group said it also plans to hire an additional 1,000 researchers, while building a new residential building in Yokohama to accommodate them.
LG Japan Lab will carry out diverse R&D projects especially on developing robots and batteries for electric vehicles.
