[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it has joined forces with Britain-based online design magazine Dezeen to host a design competition to create content for the Ambient Mode feature of the company’s high-end QLED TVs.

The Ambient Mode, one of the major features of Samsung’s QLED TVs, displays various things such as news or photos, even when not in use. Participants of the competition can submit their ideas for content to be displayed through the feature.

“The idea behind Samsung’s Ambient Mode is that it does away with the black screen that dominates a room when a television is not in use,” Dezeen said on its website.

“Instead, it makes the screen look almost transparent by mimicking the appearance of the wall behind it, and enhances the environment with additional imagery and information if desired,” it added.

The competition will run through Aug. 3, and participants can send in ideas via Dezeen’s website.
