[THE INVESTOR] The number of Korean companies newly listed or to be listed on the country’s tech-laden bourse this year reached an all-time high, the bourse operator said on Dec. 19.

A total of 81 firms either have gone or will go public on the KOSDAQ market this year, up from 79 firms in 2017, according to the Korea Exchange.

This year’s figure is the largest since 2005 when the bourse operator was launched by consolidating the KOSPI, KOSDAQ and derivatives markets.

As of Dec. 19, a total of 1,313 companies are on the KOSDAQ market, with their combined market capitalization coming to 221.8 trillion won (US$197.24 billion), according to the KRX.

In 1996, when the bourse was established, 331 business entities were listed on the bourse with the aggregate market cap reaching at 7.3 trillion won.
