Samsung Electronics said Wednesday that it is supplying high-efficiency heat pump air conditioning solutions in large quantities for a major residential redevelopment project in Cornwall, England.
The project is set to repurpose a former mining site spanning approximately 2 million square meters in the county.
The site will transform into the West Carclaze Garden Village residential community by 2035 with housing, schools, hospitals, and a community center.
Samsung Electronics will provide residential EHS products that provide heating and hot water based on a high-efficiency heat pump system. With lower carbon dioxide emissions than existing fossil fuel-based boilers, the heat-pump products are seeing growth in line with Europe’s carbon neutrality policies.
The products to be supplied are Mono R290 and Mono R32, both of which offer lower Global Warming Potential.
The Mono R290 uses propane, a natural refrigerant, to heat water up to 75 degrees Celsius even at minus 10 C.
Mono R32 uses a refrigerant with a GWP approximately 68 percent lower than the commonly used R410. Additionally, its compact design allows for versatile installation in spaces such as under windows and balconies.
Samsung Electronics will also supply various home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and ovens linked to the SmartThings ecosystem, allowing for easier control and household energy reduction.
The AI-based B2B automation system “SmartThingsPro” will be applied in the village, enabling comprehensive energy management for communal facilities such as schools and hospitals.
“We aim to expand our high-efficiency heat pump solution supply by further advancing our energy management systems,” said Lim Sung-taek, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ digital appliances business division.
