Shinhan Financial Group and Visa Inc. held talks to discuss potential cooperation in global payments and technology-driven finance, as the Korean banking group looks to sharpen its edge in digital finance.
Shinhan said Friday that Chairman and CEO Jin Ok-dong met Oliver Jenkyn, president of Visa's Global Markets Group, a day earlier at the Korean company's headquarters in central Seoul.
The meeting focused on ways to respond jointly to shifts in digital finance and broaden the firms' footing in global markets by combining Visa's payments network with Shinhan's domestic banking strength, according to the company.
The two sides discussed possible collaboration in AI-driven services, digital assets, business-to-business payments and global platform-linked businesses.
Shinhan said it plans to tap Visa's international network to support its AI transformation and cultivate new growth drivers, while expanding opportunities to work with global companies and platforms.
"We will respond proactively to changes in the global financial environment by leveraging Visa's global payments network and technological capabilities," Jin said. "We hope this collaboration will help accelerate digital transformation and strengthen our competitiveness in future finance."
